From the Dominion Post
One of two prisoners handcuffed together who ran either side of a lamp-post in an ill-conceived bid for freedom has pleaded guilty to trying to escape custody.
The other was remanded without plea after his lawyer expressed concerns over his fitness to plead.
Regan Reti, 20, and another man, 26, ran from a police escort while leaving a side entrance of Hastings District Court on Tuesday.
They had been handcuffed together after Reti was sentenced to two years' prison on assault charges and the other man was remanded in custody on charges of breaching parole conditions.
Their break for freedom came to an embarrassing end when they chose to run on different sides of a lamp-post. They swung around the pole and collided with each other before collapsing in a tangle. Each blamed the other for their actions.
The episode was caught on CCTV.
The men reappeared in the same court yesterday for attempting to escape custody.
Reti's lawyer, Eric Forster, said his client was anxious about being sent to prison and got a case of the "collywobbles".
Reti was sentenced to an extra month in prison and was escorted from the court without incident.

WeightWatchers and Me
Felt a little concerned with a weigh in today, like I hadn't done well this week, but was happily surprised to see that I lost another 2.4kgs.
It means in my first three weeks on WeightWatchers I have now lost 8.3kgs (18lbs 4 oz)
Am back to the gym this week as have been pretty sedentary so far, but Club Physical...look out here I come
This weeks Tip.
Use Pepsi Max as a treat, it tastes beautiful and is zero points...so guilt free :o)

The new toy -"The Beast!"
Bought a new toy yesterday, a 3-in-1 Masport mower.
I am in love, if I wasn't already married this green machine would be in trouble.
I used it today on the front lawn and it is awwweeeeeesome, torn that lawn up, the kikuia stood no chance.
It's a mulching machine and I am already looking forward to mowing the lawns next time as they were too long this time to mulch.

The 'F' Word
Had a funny incident happen today which made me think about the ‘F’ word. I can’t remember the show but I do remember once a sketch by someone going on and on about the ‘F’ word…and it ended up being ‘forbid’.
I had several incidents this weekend when people used a certain word that starts with ‘F’ during talkback sessions that probably shouldn’t have. Below is the most extreme example, the naughty words are in the last 30 seconds if you want to scroll forward.
It was talkback on Saturday morning based around the tragic shooting of Halatau Naitoko, at the stage there was no information released other then the shooting had happened and the police had said they didn’t know who fired the fatal shot, I questioned that and implied that I believed the police would have fired the fatal shot. Jeff then phoned…
Please note I have bleeped out the offending word(s)…
The funny part is I was speaking to my boss today and told him I had a bizarre weekend where the ‘F’ word was said 4 or 5 times, the weird part was it hadn’t come up in 12 months…then a plethora of ‘F’s’ in a weekend.
When speaking to the boss I said ‘The F Word’ as my 4½ year old was standing in front of me…the conversation continued with one addition, Shorty trying to guess what the ‘F’ word was…
Fish, Frog, Firetruck (which isn’t too far from the actual word) and Fun were all suggested, I am happy to say…she doesn’t know what the ‘F’ word is, well the one I was talking about…phew!

WeightWatchers and Me
Had my second weigh-in today and am still heading in the right direction, lost another 2kg. That means my total loss in two weeks in 5.9kg
I had a revelation this week which made me feel like an idiot because it seems so simple.
If one eats like a normal person, one will lose weight and keep it off.
I guess it's obvious that all overweight people put too much food in their system. If you put in more calories than you use, it gets stored as fat...an overweight person.
For someone who has been doing this for decades, I guess sometimes when you come back to simple thoughts it all becomes clearer.
Tip of the Week
Awesome snack is the ice-cream cones from McDonalds'. 1.5 points and makes you feel like you are not missing out...choice

The Daily Show?
I spoke with C4TV today because I am missing The Daily Show and asked if it was coming back. They said that negotiations were happening and they were trying to get it back.
On top of this we hear that Comedy Central is coming to Sky Digital, so I guess either C4 will have it, or, at the least, we'll be able to get it from April 1st, that's right...April Fools Day.
Until we get it back, can I suggest going to http://www.thedailyshow.com/ where you can watch all the shows online by 10pm each night NZ time.

Weightwatchers and Me
I have been overweight all my adult life, I have moved from heavy but fit and active to sedentary to fit again and all over the place in between. I think it's time to knock the weight on the head once and for all.
2009 will be a year of health, it will be a year that I can get to being healthy.
I am not saying this with confidence as obviously I have done things in the past...and have eventually failed, or I wouldn't need to lose weight.
This week was hard, I walked into my local dairy and just had a plethora of messages saying 'I don't want to do this', luckily I fought those and won and am pleased to say that week one of WeightWatchers I have lost 3.9kg.
I am doing the Satisfaction plan, which is kind of like 'Points for Dummies'
I'll keep you up to date with what I'm doing, getting through, finding to help and (finger crossed) my successes.

Confused about Gaza
I have spent the past 10 days or so, and prior to that many months and weeks, wondering about the love of Israel.
I have always been confused with America's 'love' of Israel, in the debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, Ms. Palin referred to being excited that Mr. Biden "also loved Israel"...the below clip is not that comment, but an indication of how the American political system seems unable to have it's own thought process about Israel
That has always confused me, and the current situation is confusing to me as well. Firstly let me say that I don't think Hamas is right, in fact I think their rocket attacks a dam well wrong...I guess my difference with most is that I don't think Israel is 100% right either. It seems that if you have an opinion that does not equate to 100% uneqivocal agreement with the style and tactics of what Israel is doing, you are anti-Semitic. Let me show you what I mean, this is an email that came in at the end of talkback where my premise was, "I don't understand and I think both sides are as mad as March hares"

hello Pat. You need to watch it mate. Your anti semitism is very clear and I think you probably are also a Nazi sympathizer.
Many of your callers are as ignorant and misinformed as you are. Your show is pathetic and racist.
sincerly, Jen.
I have spent some of today trying to figure out why asking the question makes so many people irate and angry, and I think I've come to my own conclusion.
What is irking me about the situation is that it feel like no one has any concern, no one cares that innocent lives are being taken, that's about where I am at. Not saying Israel is wrong, Hamas is right or vice-versa, it seems that the under lying feeling is that "What else is Israel to do?" along with "Palestinians brought it on themselves", where the truth is probably that some Palestinians are fighting the war, and others are caught in the crossfire and being killed.
I feel for what the media describe as 'collateral damage'
